This simple student microscope was nicknamed Mr Rusty. It was in the same damp garage as the Smith, Beck and Beck Popular but having an iron body was in a worse state. The microscope was of sentimental rather than financial value so it was important to bring it back to life. The rust was removed with decorroder, dozens of coats of enamel paint were put on before it was sanded and polished and the tube was relacquered.
Mr Rusty also received a brand new iris aperture- the aperture leaves were the only part that could not be salvaged. I grew quite fond of Mr Rusty and I was rather sad to see him go home.
