This Beck Popular had been kept in an elderly lady’s garage for some years and had got wet. A relative inherited it and asked me to resuscitate it. This is the kind of job I really enjoy!
The lacquer on the binocular tubes was not in too bad a state, and fortunately, the Wenham prism was intact; but the lower half of the microscope was very badly damaged. The microscope was cleaned, decorroded, relacquered and certain areas were chemically blackened. Several missing pieces were found in the box with microscope so it was not necessary to make new parts.
Believe it or not I have seen worse (see Mr Rusty)
